Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not answered here please call or message our office.

No. You can book directly with us. Most of our patients self-refer because they don't want to wait for a GP appointment, and there is no medical reason to require one. If you already have a GP letter that is helpful, but it is not required.
Yes, with most major UK insurers. We are fee assured with BUPA, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, Cigna, WPA, Simply Health, Freedom Health Insurance, The Exeter, Healix, Nuffield Health and National Friendly. The simplest approach is to call your insurer first, obtain an authorisation code, and provide it to us when you book. We also verify cover on our side. If you are paying privately, the prices are fixed and shown on each appointment page.
Most patients are seen within the same week, and often sooner. If you have blood in your urine or another red-flag symptom, please call us on 0161 660 3441 and we will arrange a same-day appointment where possible. By comparison, the typical NHS pathway is two to four weeks for a GP appointment, followed by a further six to twelve weeks before you see a specialist.
We offer three appointment types at fixed prices. A New Patient Consultation is £360, which is the focused specialist appointment most patients begin with. A Second Opinion is £600, for patients who already have a diagnosis and want our team to review their existing scans and pathology. A Complete Assessment is £2,500, which bundles the consultation, PSA blood test, physical examination, MRI at Harley Street, written report and follow-up into a single visit. If you are using insurance, the appointment is almost always covered apart from any policy excess. There are no additional charges or admin fees.
It depends on your situation. If you have symptoms or a recent diagnosis and want to discuss it with a specialist before deciding next steps, the New Patient Consultation (£360) is the right starting point. If you have already been diagnosed elsewhere and want a fresh review of the scans and pathology, that is the Second Opinion (£600). If you would prefer to complete everything in a single visit, including the MRI, the Complete Assessment (£2,500) covers everything in one appointment. If you are not sure, please call our PA team on 0161 660 3441 and they will help you decide. Alternatively, visit Book an Appointment to see the options.
A New Patient Consultation is a focused appointment with one of our specialists to discuss symptoms, results, or a recent diagnosis and agree what to do next. A Second Opinion is for patients who have already been diagnosed elsewhere and want our team to review the existing scans and biopsy slides before recommending a treatment path. There is no need to repeat any tests. A Complete Assessment is the full diagnostic workup completed in a single visit: consultation, PSA, examination, MRI at Harley Street, and a written report.
The simplest way is via our Book an Appointment page. Select the appointment type, choose a date and either a morning or afternoon session, and enter your details. Our PA team will email you within one working day to confirm a specific time. Alternatively, you can call 0161 660 3441 or email info@prostatecancerlondon.com. No GP referral is required, and most patients are seen within the same week.
Everything in a single visit at Harley Street. The package includes the specialist consultation, your PSA blood test, a physical examination, an MRI scan, a written report with findings and recommendations, a follow-up consultation, and access to our PA team for any subsequent queries. The fee is £2,500 fixed, and we coordinate every part of the appointment so that you do not need to chase referrals or scheduling yourself.
It depends which appointment you have booked. A New Patient Consultation or Second Opinion is a focused appointment with the specialist, so we recommend allowing approximately one hour. A Complete Assessment runs longer because the consultation, PSA, examination and MRI all take place in the same visit. We confirm the exact appointment length when we contact you, and appointments are not rushed at either end.
We will arrange them for you. If you are booked in for the Complete Assessment, the MRI is already included in the £2,500 fee. If anything further is required, such as a biopsy or PET scan, we will explain why it is needed and what it costs before booking it. There are no surprise invoices.
Yes. Whichever consultant you see at the first appointment remains your specialist throughout your care with us. That continuity matters. The same consultant reads your scans, makes the recommendation on treatment, and follows you up afterwards. You will not be passed between teams.
Photo ID, your insurance card if you are using insurance, a list of any current medication, and any previous test results or scan reports if you have them. If you are coming for a Second Opinion, please also bring the actual scans (a CD or a download link is fine, and your previous clinic can usually provide these). We will send you a short pre-assessment pack when you book, which covers everything you need.
PSA results are available the same day. Your written report is usually with you within 48 hours of the appointment. If we have ordered an MRI as part of the Complete Assessment, the radiologist's read takes a few days, and we will contact you as soon as we have the report.
Please call 0161 660 3441 today. If your symptoms include severe difficulty passing urine, significant pelvic pain, or visible blood in your urine, we will do everything we can to see you the same day. The PA service operates outside normal hours as well, so please do not wait if something is worrying you.
Yes, regularly. We work with most international insurers and are experienced in coordinating appointments around a flight in and out of London. We provide a written report you can take to your doctor at home, and where remote follow-up is appropriate we can usually arrange it. If you are flying in, please give us as much notice as possible so we can offer an appointment that fits your trip.
On the NHS, you will typically wait two to four weeks for a GP appointment, followed by a further six to twelve weeks before seeing a urologist. With us, you contact the practice directly, no GP referral is needed, and you are typically seen within the same week. For urgent symptoms we can often see you the same day. You will also see the same consultant throughout, rather than whichever doctor is on rota; PSA results are available the same day; and the written report is back within 48 hours. The NHS team at UCLH is excellent, which is where our consultants do their NHS work, but the timelines are very different in the private setting.
Yes. We are a self-referral practice, so you can book directly with us, and most of our patients do. Call 0161 660 3441, email info@prostatecancerlondon.com, or use the Book an Appointment page online. You will usually be seen within the same week.
We have four consultant urological surgeons, all of whom hold substantive NHS posts at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), one of the UK's leading cancer centres. Mr Ashwin Sridhar specialises in prostate, bladder and kidney conditions, with a particular focus on robotic prostatectomy. Mr Zafer Tandogdu specialises in prostate cancer and broader urological oncology. Mr Anand Kelkar specialises in kidney, prostate and stone disease, and minimally invasive surgery. Professor John Kelly is the Clinical Lead for the UK's largest urology pelvic cancer centre at UCLH and a bladder cancer and robotic surgery specialist. Full bios are available on the doctors page.
